How Acupuncture Works:
Acupuncture therapy is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine’s observation of meridians in the body. The body’s channels act like freeways, and when there is harmony and free-flow, there will be no disease. Each acupuncturist performs a thorough intake to learn what part of your body has a traffic jam, and through multiple treatments, releases that traffic jam to reinforce your body’s homeostasis. To sustain a practice of total health and pain-free living, however, you must also contribute with supportive life practices like dietary change, exercise, and possible psycho-social therapy. Acupuncture activates your body’s natural healing potentials that you can sustain.
Biomechanics of Acupuncture:
Acupuncture is the insertion and stimulation of thin, filiform needles to increase blood flow, while at the same time triggering the activity of the body's natural painkillers. Some research suggests that acupuncture also stimulates the nervous system and endocrine system, helping to regulate immunity and hormones.
I’m ready, now what?
On your first visit of two-hours which includes a thorough medical history evaluation and intake, I will provide you with a diagnosis and plan of treatment based on your chief-complaint. I may also recommend herbal supplements, dietary changes, and qigong therapy. During treatment you will lie on a massage table in either prone or supine position, followed by the insertion of filiform needles, stainless-steel, single-use needles that activate neurotransmitters, the release or inhibition of hormones, and/or your immune system. Most patients do not feel much, but sometimes patients experience a dull-ache at the site of insertion, an electric-feeling, or tingling sensation. This sensation disappears in less than 30 seconds. Once your treatment is complete, most patients report feeling relaxed and relieved, and over the course of treatments (duration depending on severity and condition), patients start to see their symptoms subside or eliminated completely.
As your acupuncturist, I am part of your team with the goal of maintaining your optimal health, best quality of life, and longevity.
